The Wayne ultra: $300 to men’s xxc winner

This first annual event will showcase some of the area's most beautiful and challenging single track while taking you on a true backcountry epic! Whether you are out to win or to have a great day on the trail you are sure to be amazed by the natural beauty of Southeastern Ohio.
To ensure a great trail experience, RVMBA volunteers have dedicated hundreds of hours to course preparation.
The 40 mile Ultra course is a challenge so we will also be offering an "Almost Ultra" course that weighs in at about 25 miles. Sunday will offer a series of group rides led by RVMBA members. The race will be staged at the beautiful Leith Run Campground on the Ohio River. The campground offers a playground and hiking trails so bring the whole family for a festive weekend of riding! Come and get some!

A Look Back at the Wayne Ultra:
It was at a series meeting in Flatwoods, WV that The Wayne Ultra was conceived. I simply asked to add it to the schedule, and it was done. The next eight months would see an incredible amount of hard work, dedication and preparation by the few people who gave their all to make this event the best it could be. The race committee consisted of Bill, Rich, Ryan and I. Anne also showed her sincere dedication to the event. Thanks! You guys are awesome! We have had some trying times through all this but mostly it was a BLAST!
Some eleven hundred or so work hours later, The Wayne Ultra was born on June, 28 2008. An event that will not be measured by rider count but by its quality and the satisfaction of the competitors. Now these same people will be responsible for the events future growth and nurturing, it's in good hands!
Thanks to everyone who helped make this event a success. The sponsors, volunteers, and the riders were all super! I expect to see you all again next year!
The men's race came down to three riders who would take turns battling for the lead. Garth Prosser took the command early, and then Shawn Adams had a turn at the front. In the end it was Andy Wiedrich who would rally from third to take the win! Congrats Andy! Maybe a little redemption from the Mountwood deal! Jonny Martin out dueled Aron Yevuta for the single speed victory, Mike Boyes held off Steve Schumaker to win the masters and Holly Forsyth rolled in for the women's win. It was great to have some big hitters show. I didn't get to witness any of the 25mi. xc race myself, but Jason Leaman put the hammer down and took the win! Nice job Jason.
I feel like those who attended the event were impressed and said they would be back next year and bring their friends. This is what any race director wants to hear. That, my friends, is what we call success!! Thank you everyone! See you next year!
